Boots and overalls for fly fishing are selected first according to depth, temperature, bottom and draught duration. The main design options include high boots, PVC and neoprene overalls. They are not interchangeable: the right size, freedom of movement and sure step are more important than thickness or appearance in themselves.

Boots to the thigh are only suitable when water and terrain allow for safe shallow draught. The breast jumpsuit gives greater range, but is not permission to go deeper than safe. In cold water, neoprene provides more thermal insulation, while lighter materials can be more comfortable in warm weather and long transitions. The layers below them should take away moisture and not limit the stride.

The size is checked with the socks and clothing you will actually wear. The narrow pattern creates tension in the knees and groin, and the too wide forms folds and hangs vegetation. With a built-in boot, leave room for the fingers without the heel lifting. In individual shoes, consider the thickness of the neoprene sock and do not use a size chosen only on everyday shoes.

The sole is selected for the specific bottom. Mud, gravel, wet stones and slippery plates require different grip. The overalls belt is worn properly, and the straps and buckles should not be unbuttoned when bent. In fast water, use a draught pole and plan the exit in advance. Don't go down alone in an unfamiliar precinct and rely on equipment as a substitute for judgment.

After the outing, rinse the mud, dry the overalls on both sides and store it without sharp folds. Look at the stitches, knees, boots, and the places around the buckles. A small leak is detected and repaired according to the material before it becomes a problem in the water. Wear dry clothes in a separate waterproof package and do not store the wet equipment in a closed bag for long.
