The fishing scale is selected by capacity, gripping mode, readability and the possibility of safe measurement with a suitable bag. Digital models with 45, 50 and 60 kg limits indicate the need for reasonable reserve, and in some of them there is a switch between kg and lb. The choice must remain within these clear functional boundaries.

Maximum capacity must have a reasonable reserve above the expected weight, but an excessively high limit is not an automatic advantage. For smaller fish, legible step and steady reading are important. Check that the specification indicates accuracy or division and do not mix them with the maximum load. Select the unit before the measurement and do not change the kg/lb when recording a series of results.

A bag reset is mandatory for a correct result. Hang the empty, wet bag, use the tare function according to the instruction and only then place the fish. The top ring or T-shaped handle must allow a stable grip; at high load, use a suitable stand or tripod if the manufacturer allows it. Do not lift fish by the gills, and do not let it swing high above the ground.

Prepare the scales before removing the fish. The battery, screen and hook are checked in advance, and the mattress or wet bag is ready to safety. The measurement should be short. If the value seems unusual, repeat once under the same conditions, instead of holding the fish for long. Record whether the weight is net and which unit of measurement was used.

After use, clean and dry the hook, ring and casing. Do not dip the electronic scale unless the specific model is explicitly protected for this. For long storage, check the battery directions. Periodically compare the indication with a known load in the permissible range; this does not replace professional calibration, but may detect an obvious deviation or a dead battery. It carries a spare battery separately and protected from moisture.
