In a ice fishing outing, the box works like a small field station: keeps the small items in order, keeps them from snowing and reduces the time that hands remain open. The choice starts with the way you fish, the number of shifts and the place in the luggage. Look for a format you can open, recognize, and close securely with gloves without spilling the contents onto the ice.

If you wear a mormish, small twine or single hooks, each sharp part should have its own stable place. Consider whether a fixing foam, compartments or insert will hold the baits when turned. Deep common space looks like a containment, but allows metal elements to strike, entangle and hang against each other.

Separators are only useful when their size follows the real set. Leave a wider bait nest with a more voluminous shape and narrow sections for spare hooks or rings. Mark roles with a short caption or clear color code. Before an outing, open each compartment with the gloves you're actually going to catch.

On the field, separate the workbox from the reserve. In the first, arrange only the baits needed for the current hole, and keep the rest closed in the luggage. Set a place for wet items to be removed, instead of returning them immediately to the dry ones. Place the open box firmly and out of the way on shoes, cords and iceburst.

Snow, condensation and drops from the line gradually introduce moisture. After a shift, wipe the wet baits when conditions permit, and do not close water between compartments. At home, empty the box, open all sections and let it dry completely. Look at the hooks and the corrosion rings before you re-arrange them.

Maintenance begins with the hinges, lock and seal, if any. Remove the grit and frozen residue without forcing the mechanism. Do not accept water resistance only on the tightly closing lid; follow the manufacturer's markings. At the end of the season, regroup the content by technique and remove the damaged details so you don't take them out of habit.
