Do not mechanically replace one line type with the other. Monofilament is suitable when looking for the specified strength, softness and resistance to salt water at the given diameter. The sinking leader serves to shape the final section and is chosen between the two marked strengths according to the rig. Match each relationship to the adjacent component, instead of looking at the value of the individual line in isolation.

In thick monofilament, choose a knot that you can tighten evenly, wet it and check it under gradual load. Lack of memory does not negate the need for proper arrangement without sharp folds. On the leader, do a clean splice operation with the provided needle and examine the site before adding the remaining parts. Flexibility is only beneficial if the compound is executed correctly.

After a sea outing, wash the salt off the used area and dry the accessories before picking up. Check the monofilament for rubbing, whitening, or flattening around the nodes. On the leader, observe the core and the snag areas; visible damage is the cause of the affected part being removed. Keep the two lines separately marked so as not to confuse their purpose or strength on the next tie.
